Middle lamella surrounded by primary walls

Appearance of plasmodesmata

Newly formed cell walls showing the middle lamella (darker center line in walls) derived from the cell plate, and showing the primary wall on each side. Note that there are evidences of dark passageways forming across the cell walls that represent the plasmodesmata (see following pages). It is plasmodesmata through which intercellular symplastic transport of solutes occurs. In the cytoplasm of these meristematic cells numerous golgi vesicles are seen which carry matrix polysaccharides to the growing walls. Identify plastids, mitochondria and dictyosome in this transmission electron micrograph.
